Orders to MCs -ensure timely collection, release of cow cess to committees: Chander Gaind

Chandra Gaind, Commissioner, Patiala Division conducted a meeting with Gautam Jain, Nodal Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development), Avikesh Gupta, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Representative of Punjab Gau Sewa Commission, Transport, PSPCL, Excise departments and EOs of various MCs to review the timely collection of cow cess and releasing it further to the committees on time for proper upkeep of cattle pounds and Gaushalas.
Taking serious note of showing reluctance in collecting cow cess and releasing it to the committees, Gaind directed the officers to immediately recover the cow cess and hand it over to the committees for the upkeep of the Gaushalas. He said that the cow cess has been in force since the year 2018 for which the officials of the concerned departments had to transfer the collected cow cess to the committees to ensure that there was no delay in sending the collected cow cess to the Gaushalas.
Chander Gaind said that as per the Cow Cess notification, it has been levied on vehicle registration, electricity, cement, Marriage Palaces and many other items which have to be recovered by the concerned departments. He stressed on the need to expedite the work of collection so that the cattle pounds and Gaushalas can be properly maintained.
