Organ Donation Awareness Seminar organized at GNDU

Prof. Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar welcomed the guests, teachers, students and others. Prof. Dr Shweta Shenoy, Head, MYAS GNDU Department of Sports Science & Medicine presided over and said that today humanity is suffering from so many diseases and there are limited resources inspite of advanced technology. She said that the need of hour is to think beyond social and political differences to inspire general masses to urge them to donate organs. To donate organ is the biggest service to mankind above all donations as one donor can give life to many ill human beings, she added. She said that the objective of this event is to make organ donate more acceptable in society and to shed blind beliefs regarding this among orthodox.

Dr. B.S. Aulakh said that we all needed to support the noble cause of organ donation  and we all must pledge to support  organ donation. He said that organ transplantation is a miracle of the twentieth century, which has improved lives of hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide. As per statistics nearly 5 lakh people die in India every year for want of organs, while 2 lakh people die of liver disease & 50,000 of heart diseases. Of the 1.5 lakh people awaiting kidney transplant, only 5,000 get one.  Hence there is tremendous need to create awareness about organ donation as one brain dead person can donate 8 organs and help 50 others whereas a living person can donate one kidney live. Hence organ donation day is observed.

He said that our aim at Aykai hospital is to help all kinds of organ failure patients and perform multi organ kidney, liver and heart transplant by spreading awareness about organ donation. We will do our best to motivate families of brain dead patients to donate organs. We will continue the Organ Donation Day campaign, which is celebrated every year at August 13th, and provide a great opportunity in everyone’s life to pledge to donate their precious organs. Dr. Aulakh administered the oath for pledging donors where
