Over 50,000 students in Rupnagar district have joined the Punjab Government’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign through a mega theatre competition, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said today at IIT Rupnagar.
Praising the district administration and education department, Sisodia said this grassroots initiative had turned into a people’s movement. Inspired by its success, similar competitions will be held across Punjab to raise awareness among students about the ill affects of drugs.
He highlighted that over 2,000 students acted in the plays, with thousands of parents and panchayat members in the audience.
Sisodia also said that under the campaign, the Punjab Police is working with full sincerity, arresting drug traffickers and sending them behind bars, which has significantly curbed drug supply in the state. However, more work still needs to be done, and society must stand shoulder to shoulder with the police.
He informed that 1,000 village panchayats have declared their villages drug-free under the campaign, and soon many more villages will be added to the list.
Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia announced the winners: 1st – School of Eminence, Morinda; 2nd – Government Senior Secondary Schools Phoolpur Grewal and Ghanauli; 3rd – Government Senior Secondary Schools Dalla and Jhaj. Best Actor awards went to Parminder Kaur, Gursimrat Kaur, Satveer Singh, and Vanika.
