Overseas Appointment: 1999 batch IFS officer appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Iceland

R. Ravindra (IFS:1999), presently Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations at New York, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Iceland.

Ambassador R. Ravindra joined India’s diplomatic service (the Indian Foreign Service) in 1999. He is a Civil Engineer by academic background and speaks several Indian languages [including his mother tongue Kannada and Hindi] and Arabic. He also has working knowledge of French and Sinhala.

He has diverse experience having handled wide variety of issues in his 22 years of diplomatic service, including in multilateral setup and India’s neighborhood.

Before taking over his current assignment in September 2020, R. Ravindra was Joint Secretary (Central and West Africa) in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

He has previously served at the Indian Embassy in Cairo [2001-2003]; Tripoli, Libya [2003-2007]; as Regional Passport Officer in Bengaluru (Karnataka) [2007-2010]; Permanent Mission of India to the UN in New York [2010-2013]; the Indian Embassy in Colombo [2013-2016].

He also served as India’s Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, with concurrent accreditation to Liberia and Guinea during 2016-18.

Ambassador R. Ravindra is married to Mrs. Rashmi Ravindra. The couple has a son.

He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.
