Patiala Heart Institute,only private hospital from Punjab wins Kayakalp Award

In a significant development, Patiala Heart Institute (PHI), Patiala has bagged the prestigious ‘Kayakalp Award’ for maintaining cleanliness within the hospital premises and showing dedication towards the mission of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
PHI is the only private hospital from Punjab to win the Kayakalp Award till date. Only ten private hospitals across India were shortlisted for the award after a rigorous assessment process.
Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan along with Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Choubey presented the award to Dilshad Singh Sidhu, chief operating officer of PHI during an event held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
Commenting upon getting the award, Dilshad Singh Sidhu, said, “It is an extremely proud moment for Patiala Heart Institute to win the prestigious Kayakalp Award. Being recognized for excellence in promoting cleanliness, hygiene and infection control in the hospital further motivates our entire team to work towards improving the quality of care for our patients.”

Kayakalp Award- Swacchta Guidelines for Public Health Facilities
The Prime Minister of India introduced the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 2nd of October, 2014 to promote cleanliness in public space. Cleanliness and hygiene are good for healthy living, but it becomes a need when we talk about health care facilities. Cleanliness not only prevents the spread of infection but also provides the patients and the visitors a positive experience.
Kayakalp Award is given to promote cleanliness, hygiene and Infection Control Practices in public Health Care Facilities,to create and share sustainable practices related to improved cleanliness in public health facilities linked to positive health outcomes.
