Patiala Heart Institute treated complex cases of heart diseases in Covid pandemic-Dr Bagga

To mark World Heart Day, the patients who underwent successful bypass surgery and valve replacement surgery cut the cake at Patiala Heart Institute, Patiala on Tuesday.

Among others, Dilshad Singh Sidhu, COO, Patiala Heart Institute, Dr. SPS Bagga, Senior Cardiac Surgeon, Patiala Heart Institute and Dr. Biswajit Maharana, Senior Cardiac Intensivist, Patiala Heart Institute were also present during occasion.

The patients included Amarjit Kaur, Gian Singh and Gurmail Singh who underwent heart surgeries at Patiala Heart Institute. They thanked Patiala Heart Institute’s cardiac surgery team for their care and support in treating them for this deadly disease.

Speaking during occasion, Dilshad Singh Sidhu said that treatment of heart disease is a team effort. Our Department of Cardiac Sciences at Patiala Heart Institute has a team of Clinical Cardiologists, Interventional Cardiologists, and Cardiac Surgeons. We are offering complete cardiac care under one roof during this critical time of COVID-19.

Dr. SPS Bagga said that amidst Covid-19, Patiala Heart Institute’s Department of Cardiac Sciences continues to provide quality medical services to heart patients. Patiala Heart Institute’s Department of Cardiac Sciences is treating various complex cases of heart disease and where deemed necessary, performing procedures such primary angioplasty, pacemakers, bypass surgery, valve surgery, etc.

Patiala Heart Institute’s Department of Cardiac Surgery has performed various bypass surgeries and valve surgeries during the COVID 19 pandemc. One of the patients who underwent complex bypass surgery was Amarjit Kaur who visited the hospital all the way from Pehowa (Haryana) for Heart Surgery as her three major arteries of the heart were blocked and she was experiencing continuous chest pain.

According to Dr. Bagga the patients with acute coronary syndrome in case of severe coronary artery disease who are not eligible for conservative or interventional treatment are being operated upon. In such a scenario the Team of Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons discuss the further line of treatment and accordingly take a team approach in the treatment of heart disease.”

Dr. Biswajit Maharana, Senior Cardiac Intensivist, Patiala Heart Institute said , “The hospital is taking all necessary precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as flu corner at the entrance of the hospital having thermal scanning of the staff and visitors, provision of hand sanitizers at various locations, social distancing measures, usage of masks, PPE Kits for the staff and patients undergoing procedures, disinfection of the facility at regular intervals, etc.”

He further said that regular OPD follow-ups of heart surgery patients are being conducted by the Cardiac Surgeons at the hospital and if the patient is stable, they even have the convenient option of availing telephonic consultations.
