After a gap of eleven long years, the home town of Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh, Patiala came back on Tourism map when the government decided to restart the heritage and craft festivals with Patiala Heritage Festival. The heritage festival was last held in Patiala in 2006 during congress tenure.This also came after 10 months of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh came back to power in Punjab.
The department of tourism and cultural affairs of Punjab Government is going to hold Patiala heritage festival from February 18-24 and SARAS craft festival from February 21 to 5 March in Patiala.
The heritage festival will also mark the celebrations of 255th anniversary of the royal city, which was founded by Baba Ala Singh, forefather of Chief Minster Capt Amarinder Singh on February 12, 1763, when he laid the foundation stone of historic Qila Mubarak of Patiala.
Shivdular Singh Dhillon, director tourism and cultural affairs department of Punjab said “The chief minister was keen to revive such festivals, which will be held first in his home city”.
Director Dhillon also held a detailed meeting with deputy commissioner Kumar Amit along with other administration officials and chalk out a plan. He along with other officials visited Sheesh Mahal, Qila Mubarak, NSNIS campus , YPS School premises, where this festival is being organized.
He added that the heritage festival will be organised in which singers and artists from different states will come up with their traditional art forms, while the craft festival will be held at Sheesh Mahal.
Director Tourism further added that the officials of district administration have been asked to make all required arrangements especially for craft festival. The administration has been directed to ensure that the required renovation can be done in prior and be ready before the start of the Festival. Residents are very keen to see the festival after a gap of more than 10 long years.
