Patiala MC Election nomination process fiasco; high court summons top bureaucrats of Punjab

Punjab and Haryana High court has summoned the state chief secretary KAP Sinha and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav immediately to appear before the court, post lunch.

The officers are summoned in a contempt notice. BJP Patiala district president Vijay Kumar Kuka has filed a complaint as he along with others were not allowed to file their nomination papers for the upcoming Patiala municipal corporation elections.

A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking intervention in the ongoing municipal corporation and municipal council elections in Patiala, citing serious irregularities in the electoral process.

As per the complaint, several candidates’ of opposition parties nomination papers allegedly torn or forcibly taken away by individuals linked to the ruling regime. The petition accused political leaders of directly engaging in the intimidation of Opposition candidates. It claimed that the police remained inactive despite chaos and harassment.
