“Patiala on the path of progress, can be gauged from the fact that the local municipal corporation is busy in laying cemented tiles over the good condition concrete roads, in the city, wasting tax payers money” said former mayor of the royal city Patiala, Ajitpal Singh Kohli.
In a latest case, a lane adjoining Delhi plaza, on Rajbaha road, municipal corporation is re-laying the cemented tiles on the good condition concrete road.
When contacted Er Sham Lal of the municipal corporation engineering branch, he said “ the road is an old road, that was made in 2008-09, from the CM sangat darshan funds.” When asked the road is a concrete and was in good condition, Gupta said “the road got damaged at one or two points, so we are laying the tiles over it.” When questioned, why they are not doing the patch work, why are they relaying tiles in the adjoining lanes also, which were made, just a few years ago, “he said, area councilor has asked us to convert the adjoining concrete lanes, into cemented tiles lane also.”
When contacted Ajitpal Singh Kohli, former Mayor, Patiala, in whose tenure the said road was made, said, “we made the concrete road, laid pipes for rain water, sewer in this lane. The concrete road has a life of around 100 years and the municipal corporation, by wasting tax payer’s money, is re-laying substandard tiles over well-made concrete road, in just 12 years. Is this the progress? This is not a single case of its kind. Every where, we made concrete road, they converted it into a tile road “
Kohli further added, “the corporation is saying, that they are developing Patiala. Is this the development, they are talking about? They are just completing the work, which our govt had started. Actually, the present mayor and his team is busy not on doing development works, but in wasting taxpayer’s money, on non-productive works. They are busy in laying sub standard tiles, as they have vested interest in this. They just wait for some more months, as soon as our govt came into power, we will register cases, open enquiries against the erring persons.”
