Patiala police avert extortion, shooting incident, nab gangster after encounter

Acting on specific input, Patiala police have arrested an alleged accomplice of the notorious Lucky Patial gang Manpreet Singh, alias Manna, a resident of Moga after an encounter.
The accused was injured in a retaliatory exchange of fire with the police force on the outskirts of Patiala on the Dakala road on Thursday. He is accused of involvement in two shooting incidents that occurred in the sub-divisions Rajpura and Patran in November this year.
Briefing the media after the incident, Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said the accused was wanted in two extortion cases. In the first incident, he allegedly opened fire while attempting to extort money from an eatery owner in Rajpura on November 15. Four days later, he reportedly fired shots at a farmhouse belonging to an NRI in Patran area.
Sharma added ,”Manna was the main accused in both firing incidents and was already facing cases related to drug peddling and violations under the Arms Act”.
Sharing details of the encounter, Sharma siad “ SP (Investigation) Gurbans Singh Bains , CIA Incharge Samana Inspector Ankurdeep Singh had received a tip-off about the accused’s movement in the area. The police laid a naka near the Ramgarh highway in Patiala. CIA Patiala, Rajpura teams also joined them. Manna was riding a motorcycle, allegedly conducting recce to commit another crime. On spotting the police, he attempted to flee. Signalled to stop, he fired at the police team. The police retaliated, leaving the accused injured. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, Samana, where he is under treatment.”


Sharing his criminal records, Sharma said “the accused had been in touch with gangster Lucky Patial for nearly a year through a local operative, identified as Piyush. Manna has been booked under Sections 109 (Attempt to Murder), 132 (assault or criminal force used to deter a public servant from performing their duty), 221 (obstructing a public servant) and 317(2) (dishonestly receiving or retaining stolen property) of the BNS, along with Sections 25(6) (found possessing or carrying firearms/ammunition) and 25(7) (converting firearms against rules or illegally importing/exporting arms/ammo,) of the Arms Act.
A .32-bore pistol, live cartridges and a stolen motorcycle were seized from his possession.”
