Patiala police has booked a local BJP leader and husband of former municipal councilor, Harish Kapoor along with four other persons in gambling act.

“Presently, Harish Kapoor is BJP’s ‘Sanauri Gate Mandal Pradhan’” said KK Malhotra, another senior BJP leader from Patiala.

He is a close confidant of former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and his wife Preneet Kaur. Her wife remained municipal councilor from Patiala.

Harish Kapoor along with his wife had left the congress after Capt Amarinder Singh was unceremoniously removed as chief minister of Punjab. In December 2021, they had joined Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), the new party floated by Capt Amarinder Singh.

Later, when Capt Amarinder Singh had merged his party with BJP, he again joined the saffron party along with Capt Amarinder Singh.

As per available information, a FIR has been lodged under section 13 (Whoever is found gaming in any public street, place) , 6 (Whoever is found gaming in any public street, place) , 67 (being the owner or occupier, or having the use, of any house, walled enclosure, room or place, situate within the limits to which this Act applies, opens, keeps or uses the same as a common gaming-house) of Gambling act against former MC and BJP leader Harish Kapoor, Sunil Kumar, Gulshan Kumar, Shashi Bhushan and Naresh Goel .

As per Patiala police, SI Jarnail Singh of Kotwali police station, Patiala got a tip off about the ongoing gambling and he immediately raided the venue. On reaching the house in Markal Colony, Patiala he found these five persons were allegedly gambling .

The police lodges FIR against them and have also recovered Rs 16,930 from them
