With the Punjab Government having ordered fresh restrictions following the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases, the Patiala Police has fanned out in the field enforcing the various newly announced restrictions, including night curfew and number limits on gatherings in public places and homes as well.

Patiala Police have registered 45 First Information Reports (FIRs) against the violators of COVID-19 norms across the district in the first day of Covid 19 fresh curbs, announced by the Chief Minister on Monday.

“Notably, the Patiala police have registered a maximum of 45 FIRs, including 35 against shop owners, five against Restaurants, four against Dhabas and one against Protestors for violating COVID-19 norms in last 24 hours”, as per the available information. These violators were booked under section 188 of IPC (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant). Some of them were additionally booked under section 51 Disaster Management Act ( Obstructs any officer or employee of the State Authority or District Authority in the discharge of his functions under this Act)

It seems, all the police force of the district got activated after the 8:00 pm ,on the first day of the fresh covid curbs announced by the state government and started a special drive to book the violators , as the district administration has already appealed to the public to strictly adhere to safety protocols, curfew restrictions and timings and leave their homes wearing face masks only.

But public fails to understand the appeal and took it in linenant way. But, Patiala police took it seriously and as per the records- Civil Lines police station registered 7, Lahori gate-1, Kotwali Patiala-11, Anaj mandi-2, Sanaur-1, Tripuri- 2, Urban Estate-3, Bakshiwala-1, Julkan-1,Sadar Patiala-4,Kotwali Nabha-2, Sadar Nabha-0, Sadar rajpura-1, Banur-0, Sadar Samana-1, Passiana-2, Patran-3, Ghagga-3 FIRs on first day.

The Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had on Monday, clamped down with stricter curbs including extension of night curfew timings by one hour (8pm to 5am), closure of all bars, cinema halls, gyms, spas, coaching centres, sports complexes, with restaurants and hotels to be opened only for takeaway and home delivery from Monday to Saturday besides banning the gatherings of more 20 persons including for weddings/cremations. The CM had directed the Punjab Police to ensure strict enforcement of the COVID restrictions.
