PCCTU appeal to CM-allow college teachers to work from home; safe guard from Covid 19

Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union(PCCTU) president Dr. Vinay Sofat demanded working from home to safeguard staff from Covid:19. Dr. Sofat said that Teachers can conduct online classes from home in a better way.

Sofat informed that he wrote a letter to the Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh, “that Punjab Govt under your able leadership is taking a lot of steps to defeat an unseen enemy who is killing a maximum number of people. Sofat further wrote that According to your recent statement, Punjab appears to have entered the community transmission stage. Your health secretary has also indicated that by 5th May 2021, the total number of cases may touch 6000 per day. From the enclosed extract from facebook by a CORONA doctor it will be observed by your good self that the position is going out of control for the medical professionals.”

PCCTU appeal to CM-allow college teachers to work from home; safe guard from Covid 19. Dr. Vinay Sofat said although the Government of India has permitted that from 1st May 2021 youngsters above the age of 18  can get vaccine jabs, but due to the shortage of vaccines in the state it may not be possible to vaccinate college students and faculty on the fast track. Therefore, he requested the CM to issue instructions so that the colleges remain closed at least up to 15th May 2021 or till the Govt is able to be in a position to vaccinate the student and faculty of the colleges.

.An immediate action of the Government would help prevent the spread of pandemics to families of students and faculty, who come into contact with many people in normal lives said office bearers of the PCCTU. They suggested allowing the teachers online classes from their homes with better internet connectivity will be beneficial for the students as well. This will prevent the community spread of the COVID and will help to reduce the crowd from unnecessary movement.

State Secretary the PCCTU Prof Sukhdev Singh Randhawa and Dr.Bikramjit Singh Sandhu, president of Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib District of the PCCTU was also present on the occasion. This is worth mentioning that students are not allowed off-campus and teachers are conducting online classes from the colleges.
