PCMS doctors urged govt to promote them as Asstt Prof

Patiala-More than 30 PCMS doctors working under Health & Family Welfare Department met Minister of Medical Education & Research Brahm Mohindra and submitted a memorandum  urging him  to start the process of promotions of PCMS doctors to Assistant Professor in State medical colleges as these doctors aspiring to enter medical education cadre are waiting for their promotions for the last more three years and the government has utterly failed to fill the entry level posts of assistant professor in medical colleges thus, creating a wide gap in the faculty and compelling the present government to reemploy the retired medical teachers, a move which is also being opposed strongly by these PCMS doctors as it has blocked the process of their promotions as alleged.

According to these doctors, they have been serving Punjab Government and have been approaching the competent departmental authorities for holding DPC meeting to fill up the vacancies of Assistant Professors lying vacant since 2015. This long delay in holding the DPC meeting has marred the carrier progression of the serving eligible PCMS doctors, who are left far behind their fellow doctors in private medical colleges of Punjab and other states, so much so, the latter have reached the Professor level. There will not be much financial burden on Government if, by holding early DPC, eligible PCMS doctors are given chance to work as Assistant Professors, as most of the serving  eligible PCMS doctors are already availing 4/9/14 increments. Further, it will end the necessity of re-employing the retired Professors who will put not only more financial burden on Punjab Govt. but also have limitations because of their Age factor, moreover it will not be a permanent solution to hire retirees to overcome shortage of faculty, when you have eligible young PCMS doctors who can serve as faculty for long years, providing permanent solution to shortage of faculty.

PCMS doctors urged govt to promote them as Asstt Prof

Brahm Mohindra informed that the Govt. is already in the process of promotions of medical teachers at all levels in the department of Medical Education & Research and the entry level posts of Assistant professor will also be filled subsequently as early as possible.

According to Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association President Dr DS Bhullar, the Govt. is in the process of promotion of Assistant Professors to Associate Professors, which, in all probability, will render vacancy positions to more than 50% of assistant professor in medical colleges. According to MCI, Medical Colleges already have shortage of 22% faculty. This void / vacancy position will create further problems leaving no feeding cadre of Assistant Professors to Associate Professors in future, hence a matter to be taken on priority.
