A large number of connected people paid tribute to Dr. Surjit Lee, a renowned thinker of Punjabi literature , Folklore and culture who passed away recently. In the tribute ceremony held by his family at Palm Courts, Patiala, apart from intellectuals, writers and their students, leaders and activists of the struggling people’s organizations of Punjab were also present in large numbers. The tribute ceremony was started by the entire gathering. A 2-minute silence was observed to pay homage to his memory. First of all, his friend and thinker Dr. Parminder discussed the fundamental concerns of the research done by him in the field of folk culture and calling him a populist intellectual called him to understand the importance of his ideas. Eminent poet Surjit Patar, Gursharan Singh Lok Kala Salam Kafla convener Jaspal Jassi, revolutionary poet Darshan Khatkar, Progressive Writers Sangh leader Dr. Sukhdev Sirsa discussed the central place of workers and farmers in Surjit Lee’s social concerns. Literary-Cultural Emphasized on strengthening the mutual relationship between the regions and people’s right struggles and emphasized the importance of understanding the importance of the study of the people’s stream in order to get a deeper place in the people’s minds for social change. During the period of communal dances, the concerns of identifying and communicating the true foundations of folk culture were discussed. On behalf of Punjabi University’s teachers’ organization Democratic Teachers Front, Dr. Ranjit Singh Ghuman spoke about the importance of his role in the organization. Dr. Joga Singh and Dharmender Singh remembered the way he showed for research in the field of language as his students and the warm relationship he had with his students and expressed his desire to bond with the students.

At the end of the tribute function, Amolak Singh from Salam Kafla announced that Salam Kafla will organize a tribute event in Patiala on June 11 where intellectual and social importance will be discussed. Dr. Parminder shared the condolence messages sent by the intellectuals and eminent personalities from the country and abroad, including Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr. Arvind. On this occasion Joginder Singh Ugrahan, State President of Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan, Kirti Kisan Union State Secretary Rajinder Singh, Raminder Singh Patiala, Punjab Farm Labor Union State President Jora Singh Nasrali and Finance Secretary Harmel Maldi, Jagmohan Singh Bharti Kisan Union Dakonda, Jagmail Singh and Shiri leaders of Lok Morcha Punjab, student leaders Hoshiar Singh, Amandeep Singh, Aswani Ghuda from Youth Bharat Sabha, Dr. Barjinder Singh Sohal, Democratic Teachers Front, Resham Singh Bathinda from Punjab, Talwinder Singh Kharod, District Secretary of Bhakiu Ugrahan Patiala Sukhminder Singh Baran and other leaders joined. On behalf of the family, Surjeet Lee’s daughter Shaheenan Sohi thanked everyone involved.
