The Post-Graduation Department of Economics, Government Mohindra College, Patiala, mourns the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a distinguished leader, noble economist, and visionary policymaker. His passing is a profound loss to the nation and the world.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, the first Punjabi Sikh Prime Minister of India, was a towering figure in Indian politics and academia. His illustrious academic journey began at Panjab University, then in Hoshiarpur, where he pursued a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Economics. He later attended the University of Cambridge, earning an Economics Tripos, and the University of Oxford, where he completed his PhD.
Before embarking on his path as a policymaker and politician, Dr. Singh served as a Reader and Professor of Economics at Panjab University, Chandigarh, from 1957 to 1965. He was also shared connection with the Department of Economics, Punjabi University, Patiala, through his deep bond with Dr. H.K. Manmohan Singh, the first Head of the Department at Punjabi University and later Vice-Chancellor of University.
