Photo ID must to buy acid, shopkeepers need licence to sell-DC Chandigarh

The Deputy Commissioner, Mandip Singh Brar convened a meeting today with all the SDMs, Police Officials and other senior officials regarding regulation of Sale of Acid.
The Deputy Commissioner strictly directed that Addional Deputy Commisioner, Sachin Rana and all the SDMs will ensure that no one will be able to purchase acid without submitting a photo ID. Also, shopkeepers who sell acid will have to obtain a licence to do the same.
The SDMs will also have to catch hold of all the illegal acid sellers in the Tricity .The Deputy Commisoer has set a three days deadline to crack them down. The Director Health Dr. Dewan has been assigned as the nodal officer for the project.
In 2013 India’s Supreme Court has ordered federal and state governments to regulate the sale of acid in an attempt to reduce attacks on women.The Supreme Court ordered that acid should be not be sold to anyone under the age of 18. It also ruled that there should be no bail allowed for the offence.The court said that acid should be sold only to people who show a valid identity card.Buyers will also have explain why they need the chemical and sales will have to be reported to the police.
