As per available information, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the Indian armed forces full operational freedom to decide how, when, and where to respond to last week’s deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

“India is determined to deliver a crushing blow to terrorism,” government sources quoted the Prime Minister, signalling the start of a massive retaliation in the works. This bold declaration came after the Pahalgam massacre in which 26 innocent lives were lost, most of them tourists,

The PM has given these directives after he chaired a top security meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh , Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh at PM Modi’s residence in wake of Pahalgam terror attack.

PM Modi has expressed complete faith and confidence in the professional abilities of the Indian Armed Forces.

Earlier, the Modi government had convened an all party meeting where the Opposition expressed their full support for any action taken by the Centre against the perpetrators of the terror attack.

The meeting was convened in the wake of the terror strike — the deadliest civilian-targeted attack since the 26/11 Mumbai carnage — that left 26 people dead, mostly civilians.

India had already suspended Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan after 25 Indians and 1 Nepali citizen was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22,2025.
