The history of the Punjab Police is one of courage, sacrifice, and countless accomplishments. Punjab, with its 556-kilometer-long international border with Pakistan, endured the darkest days of militancy that spanned over a decade. It is a testament to the dedication and bravery of the force’s officers and personnel that terrorism was eradicated at its roots.
Once again the same courageous Punjab police officers are seems to be on the radar of gangsters. This has come in the notice of a district police when they recently apprehended a group of youngsters with sophisticated weapons. During preliminary investigation it came to light that they are planning to hurt some police officials of the district as police is neutralising gangsters.
The same is confirmed by a deputy inspector general (DIG) heading a range in Punjab. He admitted that “yes i have been informed that the apprehended youths have plans to hurt some police officials. We don’t want to highlight this. They want to take revenge as our force is taking action against them.”

Punjab has faced challenges from organized gang activity in recent years, often linked to extortion, illegal arms, drug trafficking, and interstate crime networks. Many gangs operate through small cells and use social media to project influence and recruit, sometimes from abroad. Their activities have raised concerns about public safety and youth radicalization. In response, Punjab Police have intensified intelligence-led operations, inter-state coordination, and crackdowns to dismantle these networks and restore law and order.
