Policy for allotting Tubewell connections be revised-Kangar

Rampura (Bathinda)-  “Policy for allotting tubewell connections for the power sector will be revised keeping in view the depleting underground water table of state” said Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Minister for Power, New and Renewable Sources of Energy .

Kangar said that the “zones declared as dark zones (having very low underground water level) will be mainly taken into consideration before the Punjab government decides increase in number of tubewell connections”

He said that the outgoing SAD-BJP government created their own policy of giving tubewell connections to farmers having less than 2.5 acres of land. “Just before the state went to polls, SAD-BJP government took demand notices for around 50000 tubewell connections in state and promised connections in other quotas without even thinking about the depleting underground water level, which is primary cause of worry for an agrarian state like Punjab,” he said.
