Power demand sets new records in the history of PSPCL

Today, the power demand has crossed the alarming figure of 16000 MW at around 1 PM.

On June 27,2024 first rain shower brings relief for the residents of Punjab and the power demand also gone down. But today, after less than 48 hours, the power demand in Punjab crosses all time high figure when it touches 16083 MW at around 12:40 pm

All the thermal plants in Punjab are running on full capacity the meet the demand.

A senior PSPCL engineer on the condition of anonymity said “the powercom is managing the situation after it touches 16083 MW figure. On June 19,2024, the power demand had first time crossed the 16000 mark and touched 16078 MW.”

Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Thursday had said that Punjab has met its all-time highest ever Power demand of 3563 LUs in a single day on June 26 against the previous highest-ever demand of 3427 LUs met on September 09, 2023.

Power Minister informed that the power demand has been persistently high during this summer season and Punjab has successfully met 28% more Power demand in June 2024 in comparison to the corresponding period of last year (7464 MUs till 26th June 2024 vis-à-vis 5853 MUs till 26th June,2023). He also added that PSPCL supplied 7231 MUs during May 2024 which is 37% more from 5270 MUs supplied during May-2023.
