Power engineers pay homage to AIPEF founders

Power engineers across the country celebrated 50 glorious years of All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) on Wednesday and paid homage to all the founder members. The online Webinar was held today and more than 60  engineers from all the state constituents  joined it.

AIPEF was the brainchild of Harbans Singh then Chairman PSEB, ably assisted by  R S Verma, a master orator  from Himachal Pradesh,  Shrikant Mane from Maharashtra, Bhopal Singh  and  other engineers.

When AIPEF was registered then R S Verma was chairman and Srikant Mane was secretary General in 1993. In subsequent years Bhopal Singh   UPSEB  Chairman , Padamjit Singh and others headed the organisation.

Shailender  Dubey,  Chairman said that Electricity in every house can  be provided only by public sector companies . Experiment of unbundling the state electricity board has completely failed in every sense; integrated utility is only the answer.

Padamjit Singh  chief patron AIPEF said  that they have  resolved  to follow the footsteps of founding members and will oppose every moment to privatise the power sector. He paid glowing tributes to  Harbans Singh ,R S Verma , Bhopal Singh, and Srikant Mane .The memorial lectures on these stalwarts will be arranged in state capitals.

Rathnakar Rao secretary general said that AIPEF will continue to seek professionalization of power utilities for its betterment. He urged that the old pension scheme should be applicable to all state power utilities.

V K Gupta spokesperson AIPEF said that the federation is    a representative body of all the power engineers working in power utilities under central and  state governments in India.  This provides  a forum for discussion and exchange of views amongst power engineers across the country on various policy matters concerning the power sector.

Ashok Rao talked of electricity amendment bill and overenvicing of bills by the private sector.

AIPEF provides feedback to the Government on the electricity amendment bill , which is being presented by the present day government with the sole purpose  of facilitating multiple players into the distribution sector and  reducing Discom in the background. They are completely opposed to unilateral decisions of the ministry of power.
