Today is the last day of Jatinder Singh Aulakh as Chairman Punjab Public Service Commission. He had taken the reins of PPSC on January 29, 2024. In a period less than 1 year, he not only conducted the exams, interviews for Group A, B posts but also pursued for conducing the long-awaited notification for the Punjab State Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination.

Just before his tenure expires, he is able to notify the long-awaited notification for the Punjab State Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination-2025 (PSCSCCE-2025) for 322 posts. Aulakh introduced key reforms that positively impacted Punjab’s public service framework during his short but effective term.

In his tenure he successfully conducted the exam in July 2024 and declared the final results of 21 posts of PCS Register A-II and 5 posts of Register C in December 2024.

The commission has also conducted the written exam for 200 Agriculture Development Officers (Group A) in the department of agriculture and farmers welfare, Punjab and recruited the same.

In his term, PPSC declares the final results of multiple assistant architect posts in the state government on August 28,2024.

On September 10,2024 the commission declares the final results for 19 assistant town planner (Group A) posts in the department of Town and Country planning.

On September 27,2024 the commission declares the final results for 7 posts of planning officers (Group A) in the department of Town and Country planning.

On January 1, 2025 the commission declares the final results for 37 assistant town planner (Group A) posts in the department of local government, Punjab. The position spans various local bodies including Municipal Corporations, Municipal Committees, Nagar Panchayat, Improvement Trusts.

Under his tenure, the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) had announced that the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) paper will now be treated solely as a qualifying paper in the preliminary examination for the Punjab Civil Service (PCS) (Executive Branch). This decision comes following the Punjab government’s approval of a recommendation made by the PPSC.

The commission had also advertised 300 posts of Veterinary officers (Group A), 4 posts of superintendent home (Group B), 32 posts of assistant environmental engineers (Group A)

Aulakh joined the Punjab Police in 1990 as a DSP and eventually retired as the Intelligence Chief of the state in the rank of ADGP. Over his career, he held prominent positions including Commissioner of Police Ludhiana and Amritsar, and SSP in districts like SBS Nagar, SAS Nagar, Rupnagar, and Sangrur, gaining extensive experience in law enforcement across Punjab.

Throughout his career,  Aulakh earned the confidence of all three major political parties in Punjab—the Indian National Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, and Aam Aadmi Party—during their respective tenures in government, and served in key roles under each administration, highlighting his effective and neutral approach to governance.
