For the first time President of India to be the Chief Guest for Central University of Punjab’s Convocation

The Central University of Punjab is set to host its 10th Convocation on March 11, 2025 (Tuesday), marking another milestone in its journey of academic and research excellence. President of India, Droupadi Murmu, has graciously consented to be the Chief Guest for this grand occasion. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab, will be the Guest of Honour, while Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Cabinet Minister, Punjab, and Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Member of Parliament, Bathinda, will be the Special Guests. These announcements were made by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari during a press conference held at the university’s Vice-Chancellor’s Office on Friday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tiwari emphasized that this convocation is not just a significant event for the university fraternity but also holds immense importance for Punjab, as it will be graced by the Head of the Nation and the Visitor of the University, along with the Head of the State. Their presence will serve as a source of inspiration for the graduating students, who are poised to contribute across various sectors, fostering nation-building and societal progress.
At this convocation, a total of 1,031 postgraduate degrees and 60 Ph.D. degrees will be conferred upon graduating students, while 43 Gold Medals will be awarded to meritorious scholars for their academic excellence. Additionally, the university will bestow five Honorary Causa (D.Litt.) degrees upon distinguished personalities in recognition of their exceptional contributions in their respective fields.
The distinguished recipients include Padma Bhushan Prof. Sardara Singh Johl, an eminent agricultural economist; Padma Bhushan Anupam Kher, a renowned actor, social worker, and ambassador of Indian culture; Padma Bhushan Prof. (Dr.) Bibek Debroy, a noted economist and Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India (Honoris Causa, Posthumously); Phunchok Stobdan, a distinguished Buddhist scholar; and Prof. Karam Tej Singh Sarao, a highly respected academician with significant contribution to the Indian Education System, societal development and cultural enrichment as an eminent educationist.
Prof. Tiwari also highlighted the university’s remarkable strides in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The CUPRDF NIDHI i-TBI Incubator, E-Yuva Centre, and Idea Lab have provided a robust platform for young minds to develop innovative ideas and transform them into viable enterprises. These initiatives have significantly contributed to India’s growing startup ecosystem, and the Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that CUPB graduates will continue to play a pivotal role in nation-building and technological advancement. With this convocation, the university will add 1,091 graduates to the nation’s talent pool, ready to drive social upliftment and economic progress.
It is worth mentioning that under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the university has consistently conducted timely convocations, ensuring that no student experiences a delay in receiving their degree. The university has effectively implemented the transformative academic reforms of NEP-2020, including Learning Outcomes-Based Curriculum Framework (LOCF), National Credit Framework (NCrF), Multidisciplinary Education, and Outcome-Based Learning. Additionally, the integration of digital education initiatives such as the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), National Academic Depository (NAD), and DigiLocker has streamlined academic processes, making document verification, credit transfers, and result declarations more efficient. These advancements have significantly enhanced the holistic education experience for students, ensuring they graduate with a strong academic foundation and practical skills.
The 10th Convocation of Central University of Punjab will be a landmark event, celebrating the academic and research excellence of the institution. Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg, Dr. Rubal Kanozia and other officials of the university were present in this press conference.
