Around a week ago Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that “the party will hold statewide protests on July 7 against the rising prices of petrol and diesel. The protests would also oppose deletion of lakhs of blue ration cards by the Congress government in state by keeping political considerations in mind.”

“Just 24 hours before the schedule dharna, the BJP alliance in Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal shifted its agenda of protests on July 7 against the rising prices of petrol and diesel and opposing deletion of lakhs of blue ration cards by the Congress government in state to bungling of 70,000 MT ration for April,May & June only, shows the pressure tactics used by the central govt in suppressing the issue of petrol, diesel prices  to be highlighted by its political partner in a non ruled BJP state” said a political expert.

In the morning shiromani akali dal president, Sukhbir Singh Badal, tweeted “Shiromani Akali Dal will hold dharnas in villages on July 7 to question the state govt over bungling of 70,000 MT ration for April,May & June & warn the govt to distribute ration fairly over next 5 months. Everyone must come together to fight for the rights of the needy. #Protest “.

Even SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said earlier that during protests, the party leaders and workers will urge the Centre and the Punjab government to withdraw the hike imposed in prices of petrol and diesel as it becomes double when it reaches consumers
