Prisoners get another sentence for escaping from jail; Nabha jailbreak case closed after court pronounced verdict

22 convicts of infamous high security Nabha jail break case of 2016 are convicted and sentenced 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment. The 22 convicts include over a dozen gangsters.
In 2016, 15 gangsters stormed high security jail Nabha and freed four alleged gangsters and two terrorists from the jail premises. They had escaped from the Nabha jail after gangsters dressed in police uniform had fired indiscriminately at the jail guards .
The jailbreak mastermind gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon and two other gangsters Kulpreet Singh alias Neeta Deol and Amandeep Singh alias Dhotiyan — the trio which had escaped from jail and were re-arrested later.
In these seven years accused gangster Vicky Gounder who had escaped, was later killed in a police encounter. Another escapee Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) terrorist Harminder Singh Mintoo was also re-arrested from Delhi but died later of cardiac arrest in the prison. Another extremist Kashmir Singh is still absconding and was declared proclaimed offender by the court.
Total of seven challans were presented in the court and hearing in six of those challans are completed with today’s verdict. Of six prisoners who had managed to escape, three have been held guilty, while two others died during proceedings.
According to information, the accused have been sentenced under Sections 395, 120B, 223, 224, 467, 307, 148, 148, 186, 353 of the NDPS Act.
Following the high threat, all the convicted persons attended the hearing through video conferencing as they are lodged in various jails of the state.
Additional Sessions Judge , Patiala HS Grewal held the 22 accused Gurpreet Singh Mangewal, Manjit Singh, Gurjit Lada, Bhim Singh Assistant Jail Superintendent, Jagmeet Singh, Manjinder Singh, Sulkhan Singh, Gurpreet Singh Babbi Khera, Palwinder Singh Pinda, Bikar Singh, Harjot Singh, Ravinder Singh alias Giana, Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, Kiranpal Singh, Sukhchain Singh, Rajwinder Singh alias Raju, Kulwinder Singh Tibari, Sunil Kalra, Amandeep Singh Dhedian, Aman Kumar and two others are included in the court’s list guilty in the sensational 2016 Nabha jailbreak case.
