Private aided college students of Punjabi University become ‘Sandwhich’ between govt and college management

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of Aided and Un-Aided Colleges Managements, Principals Associations of 3 State run Universities and Punjab Chandigarh Colleges Teachers Union (PCCTU), all the Colleges (Aided &Un-Aided) had announced the closure of colleges affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Punjabi University, Patiala for three days i.e. from May 31 to June 2,2023 in view of the coercive measures taken by the State Government over Centralized Admission Portal. The Principals, Teachers and Staff of each of the Colleges will sit on protest Dharna at the gates of their respective Colleges to protest against the Higher Education Department of the Punjab Government for arbitrary, dictatorial steps being taken to implement the centralized portal on these three days’ had said the spokesperson of the JAC.
As per available information, on the first day of dharna, out of 27 aided colleges affiliated with Punjabi University, 17 aided colleges and 3 autonomous colleges participated and sat on the dharna. Students, whose exams were scheduled today, faced harassment as the college gates were locked and were not opened for anyone,when they came for the annual, semester exams at these aided colleges.
But, the exams were conducted in government colleges and non-aided colleges of Punjabi University, Patiala and government colleges affiliated with the university.
When contacted the controller examination, Punjabi University, Patiala, Prof Ashok Tiwari, he said “we will conduct the examination for the students of those colleges, who are participating in this protest. We have also changed the centres of distance education B.Ed, MA exams and updated the students so that they can’t face any problem. We have also uploaded the updated information on university website and has asked the students to check it.”
Whereas, Panjab University Chandigarh had postponed today’s examination and GNDU had changed all the examination centres and shifted them from private colleges to GNDU’s campus, constituents’ colleges.

On the other hand the teachers of Government Colleges affiliated with GNDU, Amritsar, Punjabi University, Patiala , Panjab University, Chandigarh had announced to not to conduct ongoing annual, semester examination at private colleges.
