Prominent Punjabi NRI businessman passes away in UK

Gurdeep Singh Gujral, CBE, non-resident Indian entrepreneur and Philanthropist died in UK on march 3,2024. He was a man who made it big after coming from nothing, had humble beginnings. Gujral a successful businessman wasn’t born into wealth
Born on January 1935 at Sargoda in Pakistan, his family shifted to Patiala after partition. After graduating from Patiala, he worked at local ‘Hindustan Wire Products’ . Later he went to London in 1965 with 8 Pounds in his pocket. He started his career as a street vendor selling clothes in London’s streets and became celebrity and a successful entrepreneur, enduring hardship and struggles. In 1975 he launched his clothing and footwear firm Gujral Sons Limited.
Gurdip Singh Gujral, who was made the Commander of the order of British Empire (CBE) “For services to Community Relations” by the queen in 1998 , had made a mark in garment business in the UK. (UK Queen’s honours are split into classes (“orders”) and are graded to distinguish different degrees of achievement or service. The awards are presented to the recipient in one of several investiture ceremonies at Buckingham Palace throughout the year by the Sovereign or her designated representative)
He was also been chosen for the “Asian of the year award 2001” The authorities complimented Gujral on winning the award “through his dedication and hard work”.
He was also the Senate Member of the World Sikh University, UK, President International Punjabi Society, European Division, Chairman Board of Trustees Ealing Gurdwara, London UK besides other organizations.
