PSPCL appeal to residents on PM April 5 call-switch off all lights not gadgets

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to switch off lights, on April 5,2020 at 9 pm for 9 minutes, a spokesman of Punjab State Power Corporation limited has requested its all domestic consumers to switch OFF only residential lights and keep other domestic gadgets on.
Spokesman said that due to lockdown the load of Punjab will be only 2800- 2900 MW at 9 PM and it is expected to decrease by 400 MW or so. It is not a high drop. Presently only Hydel plants are running in Punjab and their response is much faster than thermals etc. PSPCL has sufficient sources to handle this dip and regain of demand through Ranjit Sagar Dam and other hydro plants. Spokesman also added that further action shall be taken as per national plan. PSPCL appeals the consumers not to worry about any power failure.All protocols for grid safety to tackle the likely reduction in demand and voltage surge are in place and there is no need for any apprehension or panic.Street lights and lights in all essential services such as Hospitals, Police stations & public utilities etc etc shall remain switched ON.
Earlier in the day, News Portal royalpatiala.in had highlighted the chances of grid failure due to abrupt power shut down on large scale, in response to a blackout call given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for April,5,2020.
PSPCL appeal to residents on PM April 5 call-switch off all lights not gadgets and with Punjab state power corporation limited, suggestions, the load factor would decrease only to a limit with the switching off lights. So we must keep our other gadgets in ON mode and save the situation to going worse.
