PSPCL imposes fine of Rs 28.45 lacs to hotel for theft of power

A spokesman of PSPCL informed that while during the routine checking of marriage places on April 18,2023 in Tarntaran, the enforcement team of Tarntaran of Punjab state power corporation limited has imposed a fine of Rs/- 28.45 lacs to a Hotel named SEVEN STAR Tarntaran for theft of electricity.
Spokesman said that during the checking the enforcement team found that the consumer was stealing the electricity by tempering the meter. Therefore, the electricity consumer was fine for a sum of Rs 28.45 lakh for theft of power.
A spokesperson of PSPCL said that an FIR no. 392 dated 19-04-2023 has been registered under the Electricity Act 2003 in Anti power theft police station, Verka in this connection. During the checking, the hotel owner illegally threatened the checking officer and interrupted the official work, that consumer also threatened to ill.In this regard, an FIR was filed in the local police station is being registered. The electricity connection of the consumer has been ordered to be disconnected immediately. The liability of the employees/officials found responsible in this case is also being considered.
A spokesman of PSPCL appealed to all its consumers to help PSPCL in controlling the menace of theft of electricity. PSPCL assured its consumers that their identity will not be disclosed.
