PSPCL set up seven member committee to look after Sri Guru Amardas Thermal Power Plant. PSPCL is all set to take over the plant in coming days after all the formalities are over. PSPCL has requested the coal ministry to use better quality coal from its Pachwara coal mine. With the coal from its own mine , the variable cost, upon acquisition, is likely to be around Rs. 3.40 per unit. The plant is expected to pick-up its plant load factor (PLF) to about 80 percent from an existing level of 40-50 percent, thereby reducing the per unit fixed cost further.

Three private power plants (L&T owned Nabha power limited, GVK owned Goindwal Sahib Thermal Power Project and Vedanta owned Talwandi sabo power limited) were commissioned in Punjab during Shiromani Akali Dal regime from 2007-2017. Two other private plants NPL, TSPL are working independently.
