In line with the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Dr. Balbir Singh, the Minister of Medical Education and Research and Health and Family Welfare of Punjab, inaugurated a new 11 KV power supply line at Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. This initiative, costing 25 lakh rupees, aims to ensure uninterrupted electricity for the hospital, crucial for patient care.

Highlighting the importance of a stable power supply in hospitals, Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized that this new line, sourced from the 66 KV old Patiala electricity grid, will resolve the electricity issues at the hospital. Additionally, another 11 KV line from Shakti Vihar is set to become operational soon. According to a report from PSPCL engineers, where single-source power cables are currently in use, extra boxes and cables will be installed. Furthermore, approximately 20 generators with additional diesel reserves are on standby to prevent any future disruptions in power supply.

During an informal media interaction, Dr. Balbir Singh reiterated that improving health facilities for Punjab’s citizens is a top priority under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership. He mentioned that medicines are now provided free of charge in all district hospitals, CHCs, sub-division hospitals, and dispensaries, and we are also ensuring the ‘Faristey’ scheme and free testing for patients. The deficiencies in hospitals associated with the medical education department will be addressed by August 15.

Dr. Balbir Singh also announced that all district hospitals in Punjab are being upgraded to model hospitals. The Civil Hospital in Ludhiana, now comparable to a corporate hospital, sets the standard for other hospitals in Jalandhar and Amritsar. The upcoming trauma centre and critical care unit at Rajindra Hospital will feature state-of-the-art facilities.

Ensuring the efficient operation of these hospitals is the government’s next priority, with plans for free medicine distribution, patient facilitation centres, high standards of cleanliness, and courteous staff. Additionally, the state government is working towards establishing six new medical colleges within the next two years.

During his visit to Rajindra Hospital, the Health Minister inspected the Dengue and Diarrhea wards, assessing the condition of admitted patients. He directed the Medical Superintendent Dr Girish Sahney, to ensure that information about patients from other districts and states is communicated to their respective district administrations, enabling them to take preventive measures against the spread of these diseases.
