The 19th annual conference of Punjab Academy of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology (PAFMAT) a state body of forensic medicine and medicolegal experts, was organized by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology in Government Medical College Patiala on the theme New Challenges in Medico-Legal Practice.

Inaugurating the conference President of Punjab Medical Council Dr. AS Sekhon as the chief guest said proper recording and record keeping of the treatment given by the doctors to their patients is most of the times incomplete but most important part of the medical practice and teaching on medical record keeping to the medical students must be a part of the medical teaching curriculum in the interest of the patients and the doctors themselves.

Lauding the role and contribution of forensic medicine experts dealing with living and dead medicolegal cases during the Covid-19 pandemic, President of Punjab Academy of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology Dr. DS Bhullar in his presidential address said the Department of Health and Family Welfare in Punjab has recently created 31 new posts of district forensic medicine experts which will in the long run help to improve the medicolegal services in the state but there is also the need to set up One-Stop-Centres in all state run medical colleges to provide integrated support to women affected by violence, both in private and public spaces under one roof.
