Speaking on the occasion, Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that to promote a sports culture in Punjab and protect the youth from the menace of drugs, the Punjab Government will construct sports grounds in every village of the state. He mentioned that these sports grounds will be developed in nearly 13,000 villages based on the demands of the local youth and will include facilities for football, cricket, hockey, athletics, volleyball, handball, and more.
He informed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has allocated a budget of Rs. 979 crore to connect the youth with sports. Alongside sports grounds, gyms will also be set up in villages to help young people focus on their health.
Sond emphasized that connecting youth with sports is very important in today’s times because sports help keep them away from social evils. He added that players representing the state at national and international levels are not only honoured with cash prizes but also provided with job reservations in government services to ensure a bright future for them.
During his visit to the Government Primary School in Chaklan, Manish Sisodia remarked that three years ago, during a previous visit, the school had broken walls, no benches, bathrooms, or clean drinking water. However, today, major improvements are visible. He said that now the school has benches for students, sports grounds, toilets, high-tech laboratories, libraries, and secure boundary walls. He stated that under the “Punjab Sikhiya Kranti”, efforts will continue to further enhance the standard of schools across the state.
