Punjab government creates new posts in districts with focus on urban development

Chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh led Punjab government has created new posts in the districts, to streamline the development works in the urban areas.
The post- additional deputy commissioner (urban development) is created in every district. The posts of additional deputy commissioner (general), additional deputy commissioner (development) were already existed in every districts. The decision concerning the creation of new posts was taken by Punjab cabinet in February this year.
Earlier the urban development works were looked after by the deputy director under the department of local bodies (DDLG). The job of deputy director local bodies was to implement the State/Centrally sponsored schemes through these urban local bodies. The posts was held by a senior PCS or IAS officer at division level. Now the posts of deputy director local bodies have been abolished and new post-additional deputy commissioner (urban development) has been created at district level.

The job of the newly created additional deputy commissioner (urban development) will be to look after the development of urban, city areas under municipal councils, nagar panchayats, improvement trusts, not in the areas of Municipal Corporation. The newly appointed ADC (urban development) will also be responsible to implement the State/Centrally sponsored schemes, in the urban areas. The appointment of ADC (Urban) will be made from IAS/ senior PCS officers not below the rank of Joint Secretary.
The posts that have been abolished include Regional Deputy Director, Urban Local Bodies at division level- Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala Amritsar, Bathinda and Ferozepur, in the department of local bodies
The work of ADC (General) is to assist to deputy commissioner in administrative, office work, where as the role of ADC (Development) is to look after the development of rural areas, implementation of central, state government policies in rural areas.
