Punjab Government Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Nangal Area

Acting firmly on the clear directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining, the Punjab Government continues its intensified crackdown across the state. In line with this policy, the Mining Department carried out a swift and well-coordinated operation late last night in the Nangal area.
During a surprise inspection conducted near Khera Kalmot village along the Sawan River, the Mining Department recovered three poke-line machines that were being used for illegal mining activities. In addition, one tipper vehicle involved in the unlawful operation was challaned on the spot. All seized machinery and vehicles have been handed over to the Nangal Police for further legal action as per established procedures.
Hon’ble Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance approach towards illegal mining. He stated that such activities not only cause severe environmental damage but also result in significant revenue loss to the state. He made it clear that no individual or group involved in illegal mining will be spared, irrespective of their influence or status.

Providing details of the operation, SDM Nangal, Sachin Pathak, informed that the action was taken through a planned and confidential operation to ensure effectiveness. He said that SDO Mining Narinder, along with the Mining Department team and local police, carried out the operation during late-night hours to prevent any evasion by offenders. The coordinated effort led to the successful seizure of illegal machinery without any prior leakage of information.
The Punjab Government has directed all district administrations to remain vigilant and proactive. Regular inspections, surprise raids, and strict enforcement measures will continue to ensure that illegal mining is completely eradicated from the state. The government remains fully committed to protecting natural resources and upholding the rule of law in Punjab.
