Punjab Government re-invites applications from eligible candidates for the posts of commissioners of a statutory commission

Punjab Government’s department of governance reforms & public grievances has re-invited applications to fill the position of Chief Information Commissioner and three posts of State Information Commissioners until the 15th of December 2023. Earlier, the post was advertised in May 20, 2023.

As per available information, the department has once again asked the interested, eligible candidates to submit their application along with passport size photograph in Room number 207, 2nd floor, Punjab Civil Secretariat-2, Sector-9, Chandigarh upto 15th December,2023 at 5:00 pm. Candidates who have already applied in reference to the may 20 advertisement need not apply again. For further information may be seen at www.punjab.gov.in”

Punjab Government re-invites applications from eligible candidates for the posts of commissioners of a statutory commission. At present there is no chief information commissioner. The last CIC was Suresh Arora, IPS former DGP, Punjab police. He was appointed as the CIC by the Capt Amarinder Singh government on July 10,2019 and his terms ended on September 25,2023.

Similarly, only two state information commissioners namely Asit Jolly and Amrit Pal Singh Sekhon are working. The term of Asit Jolly is going to end on July 9,2024 and Amrit Pal Singh Sekhon’s on April 6,2024.

Punjab State Information Commission is an autonomous and statutory body constituted as per The Right to Information Act, 2005 by the state government of Punjab through a notification in official Gazette. The commission will have one State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and not more than 10 State Information Commissioners (IC) to be appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the committee consisting of the Chief Minister as chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and a state Cabinet Minister nominated by the Chief Minister.
