Punjab government has designated 2 IAS officers, senior to present chief secretary Vini Mahajan in seniority, as Special Chief Secretary with immediate effect.

As per orders Satish Chandra (IAS) of 1985 batch presently designated as additional chief secretary (Home Affairs and Justice ) and Kalpana Mittal Baruah (IAS) of 1985 batch, presently designated as additional chief secretary (Cooperation and in addition  Principal Resident Commissioner Punjab Bhawan, New Delhi) were at number 3 and 4 in seniority list.

The government has designated former state chief secretary Karan A. Singh, IAS of 1984 batch, who is the senior most IAS officer in the state, as Special Chief Secretary, Governance Reforms and Public Grievances. Next  to Karan AvtarSingh , Karan Bir Singh Sidhu ,another IAS officer of 1984 batch, who is at number two in the seniority, has been designated as Special Chief Secretary-cum- Director General Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration.

Punjab govt designated 2 more officers as special chief secretary. Vini Mahajan, IAS of 1987 batch, made Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab and in addition Principal Secretary, Department of Personnel and Vigilance.
