In a dedicated effort to counteract the challenges posed by brain drain and unemployment, the Government of Punjab is taking decisive steps to foster employment opportunities, promote self- employment, and nurture entrepreneurship among the youth of the state. Under the visionary leadership of Harjot Singh Bains, Minister of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Punjab, a pivotal event was organized by the Department of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Punjab, in collaboration with various esteemed organizations.
The event, held on August 8, 2023, at Govt. ITI, Patiala, aimed to facilitate bank credit and loan linkage for individuals aspiring to embark on entrepreneurial ventures and self-employment journeys. This initiative, guided by the expertise of Priyank Bharti, Secretary of Technical Education & Industrial Training, and the dynamic leadership of DPS Kharbanda, IAS, Director of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Punjab, along with his dedicated team, showcased the government’s commitment to empowering the youth of Punjab.
A multitude of key organizations participated in this groundbreaking event, including District Industries Centre, Patiala, Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development & Finance Corporation, Punjab Backward Classes Land Development and Finance Corporation (Backfinco), Punjab Khadi & Village Industries Board, SBI, and the Lead Bank of Patiala. Ten public sector banks also played an instrumental role in the event.
A total of 250 students hailing from Govt. ITI, Patiala, Govt. ITI (W), Patiala, and Govt. Polytechnic College, Patiala, attended the event, reflecting their keen interest in pursuing entrepreneurial ventures. During the event, 60 students were granted loans on the spot by Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development & Finance Corporation and District Industries Centre, Patiala, while the remaining participants-initiated loan applications with various banks.
A remarkable highlight of the event was the provision of tool kits to 150 ITI students specializing in plumbing, welding, and electrical trades. These kits are intended to empower these students to establish their ventures, with expectations of earning between INR 25,000 to 30,000 utilizing these tools.
The inauguration of the event was graced by DPS Kharbanda, IAS, Director of Technical Education & Industrial Training, who emphasized the overarching vision of Chief Minister, Bhagwant Maan, and Minister of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Harjot Singh Bains, in their steadfast commitment to arrest brain drain and enable self-employment for the youth. An important milestone of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Govt. ITI, Patiala, and Larson & Turbo Limited (L&T) to establish a Construction Training Institute at Govt. ITI, Patiala, with L&T investing INR 50 lakh for this noble initiative.
