As a part of the ongoing protest with daily deferring of health and medical services, ten doctors from different departments along with action committee members and office bearers of Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association, today sat in protest for the second day outside the office of the Director Principal of Government Medical College Patiala.
OPD services in Govt Rajindra Hospital and TB Hospital along with operation theatre elective services remained closed for three hours. The medical and dental college doctors also kept the administrative duties and classroom teaching of medical students suspended along with routine medicolegal services.
In a joint press release, Punjab State Medical-Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA) state acting president Dr Vijay Bodal, state General Secretary Dr DS Bhullar, state Joint Secretary Dental Dr Navjot Singh Khurana, Secretary Patiala Unit Dr Darshanjit Singh Walia and Finance Secretary Dr Preetinder Singh Chahal said that the government doctors will not accept less than the total restoration of the NPA to its original form along with academic and other allowances.
Punjab Govt has insulted Covid Warriors-Punjab Medical-Dental Teachers Association. The PSMDTA has called general body meeting on Monday in Patiala to chalk out further course of action to force the state government for early acceptance of our demands, said Dr Bhullar.
The state government has forced the doctors to come on roads just to save a meagre amount of money by cut in NPA but for the doctors it is the struggle for safeguarding the sanctity of this allowance which is anonymous with our cadre, said Dr Navjot Singh Khurana.
According to Dr Darshanjit Singh Walia, the doctors are feeling backstabbed by cut in NPA and the government has insulated the Covid warriors instead of rewarding them for the arduous duties during the Covid pandemic.
