Punjab govt’s first major appointment of 2024; CIC appointed from Punjab after re-advertising of post

Punjab govt has appointed an advocate and senior additional advocate general of Inderpal Singh Dhanna as chief information commissioner.
The post fall vacant after the term of former DGP Suresh Arora ended in September 2023.
This is a major appointment for any Punjabi resident as aarlier, Punjab govt had appointed chairperson Punjab school education board, vice chancellor Baba Farid Health Sciences University, chairman RERA from outside Punjab after the ruling party had taken the reins in 2022.
Punjab Government’s department of governance reforms & public grievances has re-invited applications to fill the position of Chief Information Commissioner and three posts of State Information Commissioners until the 15th of December 2023. Earlier, the post was advertised in May 20, 2023.
He was appointed as the CIC by the Capt Amarinder Singh government on July 10,2019 and his terms ended on September 25,2023.
The information is shared by Punjab CM’s media director Baltej Pannu. Dhanna, who is considered to be close to Chief Minister. Earlier, the name of A Venu Prasad, former additional chief secretary to CM Mann, had been making the rounds for the CIC post.
