Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh Leads State-Level Lohri Celebration for Daughters in Patiala

Punjab Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education and Research Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, graced a state-level event organized by the Health and Family Welfare Department in Patiala to celebrate Lohri for daughters. During the event, he honored mothers and daughters from Patiala city and surrounding areas on behalf of the Punjab Government and recognized the outstanding contributions of ASHA workers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Balbir Singh highlighted the achievements of girls across various fields, noting that they are bringing pride to their families and communities. However, he expressed concern about the declining number of girls compared to boys and emphasized the urgent need to change societal mindsets to improve Punjab’s gender ratio. He praised Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s initiative to celebrate Lohri for daughters as a powerful message of gender equality, urging people to eliminate gender discrimination and treat daughters as equals.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Dr. Balbir Singh said that Punjab is emerging as a leading state in healthcare, striving to reclaim its status as “Rangla Punjab.” He shared updates on health sector reforms, including the recruitment of medical staff and initiatives to support the professional growth of ASHA workers. Those ASHA workers who wish to pursue further education will receive assistance, and exceptional performers who contribute to combating diseases like dengue or managing patients with conditions such as hypertension and diabetes will be recognized.
During the event, ASHA workers were honored with awards for their exemplary service. Other dignitaries, including Special Secretary-cum-MD NHM Ghanshyam Thori, Director of Health Services Punjab Dr. Jasvinder, and Executive Civil Surgeon Dr. Jagpal Inder Singh, also addressed the attendees.
