Punjab Jail Minister dismissed Patiala Jail Supdt, 3 other officials from service

Keeping his words that “no illegal activity , malpractices will be tolerated inside Punjab Jails”, Punjab jails minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa dismissed Patiala jail superintendent Rajan Kapoor, two assistant jail superintendents and a head warder, dismissed from service , for running an extortion racket in the prison with the help of gangsters lodged in Patiala Central jail and also ordered registration of an FIR against the erring officials and the gangsters at the Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU), Mohali. Now OCCU will investigate the matter further.

Punjab’s Principal Secretary, jails, in the dismissal order said, “The unlawful activities on part of jail supdt. and the other officials have posed a danger to the security of the nation. Thus it is not reasonable to hold a further inquiry and the said officials are dismissed from service with immediate effect.”

IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh,who conducted an inquiry into the allegations leveled against the Patiala Central jail above said officials, indicted them for running the extortion racket in league with some gangsters. The inquiry was marked after Brajesh Thakur, an accused in Muzaffarpur shelter home sex scam, alleged that jail officials with the help of gangsters, lodged at Patiala Central jail tortured and extorted Rs. 15 lacs from his family. On investigation, the officials found the allegations true.
