Punjab journalists thrashed in Delhi; detained by Delhi Police; Press Club Condemns Delhi Police’s Actions

As per available information, Antarpreet from unmute, Kuldeep from Rozana spokesman, Ravi from Unmute, Jaswant from Rozana spokesman, Sunny from Rozana spokesman, Prince from Rozana spokesman, Harvinder from unmute and Suraj, Vinit from Dainik Savera were allegedly thrashed on Saturday early morning in Delhi. The Punjab based journalists were in Delhi on official assignment to cover Delhi assembly elections.

As per journalists, they were standing when some goons seems to affiliated with a political party thrashed them without any reason. They came in HR and DL number four wheelers. They thrashed us without any reason. When they informed the Delhi police, they came and detained us rather than taking any action against the attackers.

They were taken to Tuglaq Road Police station instead of taking them to hospital for first aid, medical treatment

They added that the Delhi Police released us after the issue was raised by media, press. While releasing the journalists, police asked them to file a complaint that they were thrashed.

Later, the Chandigarh Press Club strongly condemns the Delhi Police for creating unnecessary hurdles for journalists from the region who were covering the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections.

Delhi Police misbehaved with journalists in New Delhi. Despite showing their official IDs, journalists were stopped from reporting. Furthermore, they were detained at the police station overnight.

Such actions are a direct attack on press freedom and the fundamental right of journalists to report without fear or obstruction. The Chandigarh Press Club demands an immediate inquiry into the matter and urges authorities to ensure that media professionals can perform their duties without harassment or intimidation.
