Punjab Police celebrates 9th National Voters Day

Punjab police today celebrated the 9th National Voter Day at Punjab Police Headquarters, in which Hardeep Singh Dhillon, DGP, Law and Order, Punjab administered the pledged all the police officers and employees to exercise their franchise. On this occasion, Dr. S. Karuna Raju, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab and ADGPs, IGPs, DIGs, AIGs and other officers were also present.
While addressing the gathering Hardeep Singh Dhillon, DGP, Law and Order and S. Karuna Raju, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, briefed about the importance of National voter day, democratic right of voting and motivated them to exercise their right to vote.
National Voters’ Day
In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as “National Voters’ Day”. It has been started from January 25, 2011 to mark Commission’s foundation day. Observing that new voters, who have attained the age of 18 years, were showing less interest in getting enrolled in the electoral rolls.
