Punjab Police NGO arrested by Vigilance Bureau for taking bribe in lacs

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Friday has apprehended a non gazette officer (NGO) Gurpreet singh who is working as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), posted at police station Sadar, Dhuri, Sangrur district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,10,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused was arrested based on a complaint lodged by Gurdeep Singh, a resident of village Rajomajra in Sangrur district.
He further informed that the said complainant has approached the VB and alleged in his complaint, that a case has been registered at police station Dhuri Sadar against his members of his in-laws and his brother-in-law and father-in-law have been arrested. He further informed that the aforementioned non gazette officer (NGO) ASI had demanded Rs 1,50,000 bribe by threatening to implicate the other family members in this police case but the deal has been struck at Rs 1,10,000.
The spokesperson added that after a preliminary enquiry of this complaint, the VB team laid a trap and the accused ASI was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 1,10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station, Patiala and further investigation was under progress, he said.
