Punjab Poll Budget fixed for Sarpanch 30K, Panch 20K

The Punjab State Election Commission on Friday released a scheduled for the December 30, 2018 gram panchayat elections in the state. With this, the model code of conduct has come into force from today, which will continue up to completion of the election process.

There are 13,276 Gram Panchayats and 83831 wards in the State of Punjab. Out of which 13276 Sarpanches and 83831 Panches will be elected. Out of the Panches 17811 SC, 12634 Women (SC) , 22690 Women, 26315 General and 4381 BC Category will be elected.

1,27,87,395 voters (out of which 66,88,245 Male voters , 60,99,053 Female voters and 97 Third Gender Voters) will cast their votes.

These elections are being conducted with Ballot papers using 62441 Ballot Boxes There are 17,268 polling booths and 86340 employees are appointed for election duty. Requisite election materials have been sent to District Electoral Officers in the state.

The State Election Commission Punjab has fixed maximum expenses limits of election expenditure, as a Candidate for Sarpanch is allowed to spend Rs. 30,000 and Candidate for Panch is allowed to use Rs. 20,000.

The process will start with the issuance of notification on December 15, filing nominations would last till December 19, Scrutiny of papers would be done on December 20, and the papers can be withdrawn up to December 21. Voting would be conducted on December 30, from 8.00 AM to 4.00 PM.

Counting of votes would start the same day after polling ends. The election process will complete on December 31, 2018
The commission has issued strict directions for compliance of the code of conduct.
