Punjab Prison Olympics 2025 commences at Central Jail, Patiala

The zonal matches of the Punjab Prison Olympics 2025 commenced today at Central Jail, Patiala, and will continue until February 9. Jail Superintendent Varun Sharma inaugurated the event and interacted with the participating inmate sportspersons.
Inmates from Central Jail Patiala, Central Jail Shri Goindwal Sahib, District Jail Roopnagar, District Jail Sangrur, New Jail Nabha, and Sub Jail Malerkotla are competing in the event.
Jail Superintendent Varun Sharma stated that, under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the guidance of Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, inmates from Punjab’s prisons will compete in various disciplines, including tug of war, volleyball, badminton, athletics (100m, 400m, long jump), and kabaddi. Outstanding players will qualify for the Inter-Zonal Punjab Prison Olympic Games 2025, scheduled for March 15-16.
Also to reward diligent jail employees and employees of other forces deployed at the jail, Commendation certificates and cash rewards have been awarded by ADGP, Jails Arunpal Singh.
Additionally, he highlighted that the Punjab Government has initiated various skill development programs for inmates. A plumbing course has been introduced for male inmates, while female inmates are being trained in stitching, aiming to enhance their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
