Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday congratulated the State Information and Public Relations Department for securing the third prize for the Punjab tableau at the national Republic Day celebrations.
The state’s tableau, highlighting the historic Jallianwala Bagh massacre, was the result of the untiring efforts of the team, he said, terming the award as an honour for the state and the Punjabis living in different parts of the country and abroad. He termed the tableau as a humble tribute to the centenary commemoration of Jallainawala massacre in April 2019, and said the prize would go a long way in imbibing the spirit of nationalism and patriotism amongst the younger generation.
The award was conferred by Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at New Delhi this morning, and was received by Secretary Information & Public Relations Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, who was accompanied by Director Anindita Mitra. Notably, the department had also been awarded third position in 1967 and in 1982.
Giving details, an official spokesperson said the Punjab tableau was selected by the National Tableau Selection Committee from among the 16 shortlisted states chosen for the final Republic Day Parade. This was the third successive year when the Punjab Government’s tableau was selected for final Republic Day parade.
In this year’s R-Day, Tripura secured the first position while Jammu & Kashmir got the second spot for their tableaus.
