In a surprise move Punjab vigilance bureau today picked up Shammi Singla, chief engineer, canals (look after charge) in 12 years old case, which is not immediately cleared.
As per sources, the vigilance team reached water resources department at sector 18, Chandigarh and asked the officer to sit along with them in their vehicle and instructed the driver of the chief engineer to not to follow them.
Around 15 persons including three women in three vehicles came and met the chief engineer in the adjoining room of his office, talked with him for few minutes and take him along with them.
No one in the office knows, who they are and from they had come, what transpired in between them and Singla.
Speculations are rife that the enforcement agency has taken the officer to Bathinda to raid his residence.
As per sources, the officer had made a Payment of Rs 22 crore, last week and is pressurizing the contractor, junior staff to pay him the kick back. This might also be the reason that the enforcement agencies has taken this step.
